“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ―
Thank you Steve Jobs and all the folks at Apple that have inspired me
….to be me. 🙂
If you feel you might be one of these people mentioned above…
In early June of 2001, I started with our first unofficial website under the title A Christian Connection.com. There were newsletters and groups of different kinds, people from all over….that’s when the internet was fresh with people helping people online.
Lot’s of AOL and Yahoo groups were buzzing around and our groups were growing….the small start of social networking of my like-minded online family. Mostly mom and dad geeks and kids wanting to learn more about growing technology.
Then, building an online portal wasn’t as easy as it is now, and
A Christian Connection.com was growing quickly and we were all having a great time in the various groups and site. As a stay at home mom, wife, home school parent, wanna be business mom, and geek from the 80’s. I put the site up as a learning tool for my kids and a place I could meet people with interests similar to my own (before what we now call social media).
My kids learned how to build a site, and around the age of 9 were learning business skills from some of the experts in various groups like Ebay, online marketing, and coaching groups. There weren’t many big financial earners online, just ordinary people enjoying meeting others who understood me and the things I had found interesting at that time.
Then something happened!
My site was hacked into: not just once but 3 times! All my passwords were lost/taken, porn was sent out by the to all my email groups and site followers, and I lost access to my groups, contacts, passwords….everything. Years worth of work. Gone in minutes.
Rebuilding the site became overwhelming, housework fell behind, kids were more interested in playing video games than learning, and I felt the priority was refocus on books as opposed to technology. Wow, “if I knew then what I know now”.
My kids are older, the site A Christian Connection.com, as well as all the other sites we were building were put on the back-burner, let go for lack of money and discouragement and I went back to being a mom and taxi driver (for kiddos). A choice I will never regret.
As I see the growth of the internet and all the new and exciting things that business online has to offer, I am regrouping, refocusing, and reorganizing what was the start of an incredible journey for my family and myself.
I had the opportunity to travel, meet other online geeks, and learn about a whole ‘nuther world’. I’ve had the opportunity to meet some of the original internet marketers and use some of the ‘behind the scenes’ or ‘secrets’ of the geeks that have helped build some of the now popular internet sites.
To start on the internet, whether you are an expert scriptwriter, a home school dad, mom, or child here’s a personal invitation I’d like to extend:
I’d like to take you on my new/old journey into the world of internet marketing.
I’ll share with you only sites and services I trust. Many of the original marketing sites I visited are gone now, and almost everything that was free then has a price tag attached. As I find people of integrity to help us grow our online business I will pass that information along.
Please do the same. Together we can be the ‘people crazy enough to change the world’.
I was recently able to get into one of the yahoo groups I started in 2004(?) Anyway, if you’re a home school family:
